Let’s get to the root of what you’re really fighting about.

Couples Counselling in Victoria’s Westshore, and virtually across BC.

why true peace counselling?

It seems like you and your partner are stuck in the same old fight, and nothing ever changes. What do you do if you don’t want your relationship to end? Couples counselling might be an option, but you cringe at the idea of being told that you’re the reason the relationship is failing.

You need a counsellor who is willing to go deeper: someone who recognizes that assigning blame will only perpetuate distrust, and who can help you and your partner identify the underlying patterns that are tearing your relationship apart. When you go to the root of the issue, the real healing happens.

Our approach

Set the vision

You’re in your first couples counselling session, and you’re tense because you have no idea what to expect. How can a counsellor fix the emotional connection between you and your partner? Can you ever truly trust each other again? The first step is identifying what outcome would mean the most to each of you. Setting the vision lets us know where we are going, so that we know when we have arrived.

Address the pattern

You bring up an issue and your partner becomes distant. Your partner makes a mistake and pretend you aren’t bothered. Relationship breakdown isn’t happening because of some inherent flaw in you or your partner; it is happening because you are stuck in a pattern. Couples counselling is most effective when we fix the pattern, because people don’t need to be fixed.

Heal the hurt

You are hurting, and you don’t know if you can look at your partner with love again. Couples counselling won’t recreate trust unless those wounds are healed. One partner wants to move on without accounting for the past. The other is rooted in the past. When we acknowledge how the past impacts the present, the emotion can process, and the wound heals.

Are we a good fit?

We may be a good fit for you if…

  • One or both of you grew up in a home where no one taught you what healthy boundaries and communication look like. You want to break that cycle and build a relationship you feel proud to be in.
  • Perfectionism and people-pleasing show up in your relationship, making it seem impossible to resolve conflict. You want to break that cycle.
  • Life transitions cause tension and fighting. You and your partner want to be able to navigate change confidently.
  • You feel lonely in your relationship, and you want to deepen your emotional connection.
  • Self-worth issues make it feel like one or both partners have to walk on eggshells to avoid hurting the other. You don’t want this to be the story anymore.
